This exhibition features the work of London photographer, Matthew Durrant and explores the effect of anxiety in our lives and the associated emotions that we feel. It is told through a series of photographs depicting a story called 'The Colour Jungle'.
The narrative aims to explore the cyclical conflict through time of all-consuming anxiety (a metaphorical jungle, like dense vegetation or a concrete metropolis) with a sensory release (colour). At different times in the sequence, one or both may be dominant.
Matthew originally trained as a conservationist and inspired by modern social issues as well as the challenges which face our environment. He uses colour to inject stories through his photographs, which he manipulates through post-production techniques.

Camden Image Gallery is pleased to present Gloom to Colours, a solo exhibition by multi-disciplinary artist Pumpi Moore.
Moore brings to her first solo show a collection of abstract paintings, drawings and screen-printing.
From an early age her refusal to follow Islamic teachings made her an outcast within a strict, non-plural, theocratic, socio-political environment. From early childhood, Moore felt suffocated by the oppressive patriarchal culture of Pakistani society. Her rejection, refusal and adherence to a strictly prescribed Muslim lifestyle, as expected by her parents, led to continual threats and eventual rejection. Moore’s struggle is experienced in her drawings and paintings. Her early drawings reflect the perceived helplessness of Asian women.

There will be a range of paintings and sculptures on display.
"My practice is a reflection of my fascination for natural environments and its relationship to various sociopolitical developments throughout history. Terra Nostrum, in particular, aims to challenge the dominant religious discourses and re-conceptualise the role of the female figure in those ideas. It also shows how the political construction of the idea of land is meaningless as it overlooks the organic uncontrollability of the natural world. Terra Nostrum is a deconstruction of human complexity and a celebration of natural beauty."

"I started taking photos of the BT Tower in 2011 for no particular reason. I live in Camden and would just see it all the time. I took lots of dull shots until one day I was at TATE Modern and took one I really liked. I started to get more creative, ditched the Blackberry and embraced the iPhone.
There are two rules. I can only take photos with my phone, which is why some are very low res. And I can only take them if I happen upon a view, i.e. I never go somewhere to set up a shot.
There was an internal debate when instagram came along. Was it cheating? Fortunately I decided it wasn't and started to have some fun with the pictures.
It's become an odd fascination but less with the actual building than with the amazing city that is London and its infinite possible view points. "

An exhibition to celebrate the work of Simon Black.
Simon Black 1958-2008
Simon Black was a figurative artist who died in 2008 at the age of 49. Born in Manchester, he trained at the Wolverhampton School of Art, and studied etching at Rochdale. He moved to London in 1986.
Over his lifetime he created hundreds of artworks using many different medium – etchings, drawings, watercolours, acrylics and oils, as well as 3D pieces.
Simon used diverse sources in his work including the autobiographical, urban incidents, memory and photographs, grounded in the collective visual environment. Sense of location was crucial for him and the human figure was key. His paintings set up a dialogue of opposites between humour and the serious, the collective and the solitary, movement and inertia, the past and the present.
His work hangs in private and public spaces, including at the Royal Free Hospital where there are 6 commissioned pieces hanging in the Atrium, reflectingdifferent aspects of hospital life.
This exhibition will mark 10 years since his untimely death. It is an opportunity to celebrate his work, to remember his life, and to share his unique vision.

All Sculptures by Vojsava Fakhro.

"Having qualified and practised as an architect for many years, I turned to sculpture in the '80s. This began with an introduction to clay modelling under the guidance of a portrait sculptor who had a profound influence on my development in that field. The human form was my main point of reference, and my preferred medium was clay. I enjoyed loosely piling lumps of this malleable material to form a likeness of the sitter; the heavily textured surface was to became my personal style.
I later progressed to wood and stone. With these materials I try to capture a flow in forms, still with the human body as my direct source of inspiration. Wood certainly lends itself to that flow (stone less so), where the grain often dictates which way the chisel goes: though I am in control of the tools, there is an unpredictability which I find both daunting and exciting.
A piece of charred wood, found on a pile of smouldering wood in the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and lovingly carried back to London, pointed towards a new direction. By selectively exposing my completed sculptures to a blow torch, I could introduce greater tonal contrast and texture to my work.
Experimenting with resin, cement, papier mache and metal (for which, sadly, I no longer have facilities) I can develop new techniques through using a variety of materials. Light has played an important part in some of my work and I intend to incorporate more of this in future."

Soul Mosaic; new artworks by Daniel Clayton and Alisdair Shepherd.
In this exhibition, Clayton and Shepherd have gathered inspiration from narratives found within the natural environment. Clayton's collages are layered and decretive, garnered from memory and the imagination using recycled paper collected out of magazines and catalogues to create a mosaic-like effect. In exchange Shepherd's paintings portray a profoundly abstract interpretation; revealing his emotion and the emergence of the divine though the expressive nurturing of hue, tones and dramatic gestures of brush stroke across the canvas.

Solo Exhibition by Romanian film director and photographer Andreea Andrei.
"It's a project with people and about people. It's a simple way of trying to understand the human race. I'm trying to get to know people better by photographing them in a relaxed environment, one of their choosing. We are sucked in by social media, internet and smartphones. We forgot how a real analogue photography looks or smells like and how many emotions we can live, how many memories we can recall from a physical photograph, now we just posess huge stocks of digital memories, which may disappear in the blink of an eye. I want to bring back the instant analogue photography into the art scene. It's always a good idea to go back where it all (almost) started.
I want to make people understand that we still need analogue photography, maybe now more than ever. Everyone can own a digital camera and take pictures. But the beauty of analogue photography is that it gets you closer to the material, the real and palpable, in the face of the illusionary pixels. We shouldn't fade in technology, we shouldn't lose our humanity, I think it's our duty to take care of that. I think analogue photography is a part of that."

(Un)questionable Self brings together recent works by moving image artist Tulani Hlalo, Digital artist Bex Ilsley, Painter Carly Baker and Illustrator Andy Bennett.
“Through my practice as an artist and curator I have become increasingly interested in issues surrounding sexual and gender identity and how this is represented and displayed in art galleries. (Un)questionable Self will explore how this is changing in the present, possible changes for the future and the methods of display and art practises that might facilitate these changes; using both traditional methods and advances in technology. The Exhibition will encompass themes of sexual, gender and racial identity to question the very nature of the unquestionable, one’s Self.”

A year of reDiscovery.
"In September 2015 I began a photographic “gap year,” revisiting and rediscovering the places I have lived over 52 years - a week in each location for every year of my life. It became a year of returning to former residences, meeting with friends of the past and documenting those who have made London home. The year could not be condensed into a concise 52; instead, like life, many meandering paths have emerged over the course of my gap year and are seen in this photography exhibition."

This exhibition shows the journey of discovering an important aspect that occurs in everybody's life and especially how it has effected my own. This is awkwardness and loneliness. I know this is something that fears a lot of people and shapes our lives by subconsciously influencing our desitions. The work that is shared will be from my pieces that made me realise this aspect of myself, to my response to finally understanding and embracing it.
There will be a range of photographs from a series of photoshoots I have created over the past 9 months as well as a short film I created over the summer. I hope to provoke conversation and thought as the pieces will share a less common opinion on the subject.
